چکیده

In this thesis we focus on the numerical analysis and the development of e cient partitioned algorithms for uid-structure interaction (FSI) problems arising in hemodynamics. In particular we consider the mechanical interaction of the blood with the large arteries, with the cardiac valves and with the myocardium. In partitioned FSI procedures the coupling between the uid and the structure can be enforced in di erent ways: implicit, semi-implicit or explicit. In the rst part of this thesis, the convergence properties of a projection semi-implicit coupling scheme are investigated from the theoretical and numerical viewpoints. Then, for the same scheme, we propose a modi cation that aims at improving its stability properties. This modi cation relies on the reinterpretation of the Nitsche's interface coupling as a particular Robin-Robin coupling. In the second part uid-structure interaction problems with cardiac valves are addressed. For these problems we devise a modular partitioned strategy for the numerical simulation of 3D FSI problems where contact among multiple elastic solids can occur. For the analysis of the computational results, we also investigate the use of an advanced post-processing technique based on the notion of Lagrangian coherent structures. Finally, in the last part, a new reduced model for cardiac valves simulations is presented. This new model o ers a compromise between standard lumped parameter models and fully 3D FSI problems. Various numerical experiments are presented to validate its e ciency and robustness. With this model, numerical simulations of the cardiac hemodynamics can be performed with a reduced computational cost.

Immersed boundary methods for the numerical simulation of incompressible aerodynamic and fluid-structure interactions

In this work three branches of Immersed Boundary Methods (IBM) are described and validated for incompressible aerodynamics and fluid-structure interactions. These three approaches are: Cut Cell method, Vortex-Penalization method and Forcing method. Two first techniques are validated for external bluff-body flows and the last one is used for fluid-structure interactions. The paper confirms the a...

Convergence analysis of a projection semi-implicit coupling scheme for fluid-structure interaction problems

In this paper, we provide a convergence analysis of a projection semi-implicit scheme for the simulation of fluid-structure systems involving an incompressible viscous fluid. The error analysis is performed on a fully discretized linear coupled problem: a finite element approximation and a semiimplicit time-stepping strategy are respectively used for space and time discretization. The fluid is ...

Robin Based Semi-Implicit Coupling in Fluid-Structure Interaction: Stability Analysis and Numerics

In this report, we propose a semi-implicit coupling scheme for the numerical simulation of fluid-structure interaction systems involving a viscous incompressible fluid. The scheme is stable irrespectively of the so-called addedmass effect and allows for conservative time-stepping within the structure. The efficiency of the scheme is based on the explicit splitting of the viscous effects and geo...

Stabilization of explicit coupling in fluid-structure interaction involving fluid incompressibility

In this work we propose a stabilized explicit coupling scheme for fluid-structure interaction problems involving a viscous incompressible fluid. The coupled discrete formulation is based on Nitsche’s method with a time penalty term giving L-control on the fluid pressure variations at the interface. The scheme is stable, in the energy norm, irrespectively of the fluid-structure density ratio. Nu...

Numerical modeling of erosion using an improvement of the extended finite element method

We present in this paper a numerical model of the erosion of a soil that accounts for both the flow in the open fluid and the flow of fluid through the porous soil. The interface between the open fluid and the soil is represented using a level-set function, and the erosion is controlled by the shear stress vector. The evaluation of the approximate value of this gradient is particularly focused ...
